ItвЂ™s as though Kings of LeonвЂ™s sound has been put through an unexpected series of aural Instagram filters that really donвЂ™t do the band a disservice. Not much has made me say, I have to write about this lately, at least not much in music.

Actually, WALLS sounds pretty good, full of jewel-like detail and cogency. It should be utterly horrendous, the very antithesis of the skinny, hirsute heap of jangling hormones that Kings of Leon first presented 13-odd years ago. The implication of a title like WALLS is, after all, that they should come down. Now is the time to join the circle of life at THE LION KING, The Award-Winning Best Musical, playing on Broadway eight times a week at the Minskoff Theatre. This, then, is a big, expansive, commercial album, its hair shorn and occasionally gelled into directional styles, but one keen to bare its soul. THE LION KING also features the exceptional work of Tony Award-winning choreographer Garth Fagan and a glorious score crafted by the Tony Award-winning songwriting team of Elton John and Tim Rice. вЂњI face the music,вЂќ he proclaims, still atoning, perhaps, for the time he nearly derailed the band back in 2011 with an onstage meltdown and subsequent rehab. Over, which ends bleakly, rings out particularly rueful and retro, with Followill intoning his words rather than singing. You might just detect, perhaps, the needly guitars and galumph of Talking Heads on the verses of Around the World, an autobiographical romp in which the band вЂњgo around the worldвЂќ and вЂњfind a girlвЂќ. Here are songs like Find Me, whose 80s-cribbing production recalls, to varying degrees, bands as shiny as the Killers, or as period-perfect as the War on Drugs. Other traditions are looking decidedly more negotiable, however. I can totally imagine it being a soundtrack piece on a movie or tv drama, GreyвЂ™s Anatomy perhaps, who knows. I think everyone has felt that way before though and so the lyrics, combined with the light beat, the finger slides over the guitar strings, piano (everyone knows I am a sucker for anything with piano in it). CalebвЂ™s voice and the emotion you can hear is palpable. In short, the songs do a lot of story telling which I really appreciate about their music. Even though many of the tracks are about addiction and loss. I mean, I didnвЂ™t want to skip any of the songs, they are all so incredible. Coldplay / Imagine Dragons / Kings Of Leon / Twenty One Pilots / Avril Lavigne / All Time Low / Mneskin / Willow Smith. By the tracks on this album itвЂ™s clear that they have been enduring a lot and going through a lot, itвЂ™s definitely a bit somber, but itвЂ™s so well polished. And I wondered what they had been doing because it has been three years since their last album release. Okay so the new album released last week on October 14. Terrible right? What band would want to release something people will sing a long to and dance around and bob their head, right? AwfulвЂ¦ Idiots. Saying they sold their souls, they went for singalongs, blah blah blah.

I have seen some terrible reviews of this album. Especially after I found out their tour tickets go on sale today for some venues and tomorrow for others. And yes, I immediately felt prompted to both buy the vinyl AND write a post. (People not using Google Play can also stream the album with Amazon Prime, just as an FYI.)
